Transformation of the Day: Lauren lost 131 pounds. Over the course of eight years, her three children have motivated her to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay on course to reach her goals. She shared the combination of surgery, eating habits, and exercise that worked for her.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
My three kids have motivated me to stick with my weight loss journey. I really want to be a good example for them when it comes to perseverance and making positive changes in their life. I don’t want them to suffer from any weight-related issues or health problems, so I’ve been doing my best to stay committed to my goals and stay motivated even when things get tough. Of course, there have been times when I’ve wanted to give up or felt like I wasn’t making progress, but thinking about my kids and the example I’m setting for them has been a powerful motivator for me. I’ve also found it helpful to remind myself of the progress I’ve already made and to celebrate small victories along the way.
When did you start your journey? How long did your transformation take?
I officially started my journey in February 2015. I am 8 years in and counting.
Is weight loss surgery part of your journey?
I had Gastric Sleeve surgery in February 2015.
How did you change your eating habits?
When it comes to my eating habits, I’ve been focusing on eating more protein, vegetables, and whole grains while paying more attention to how my body reacts to different foods. It’s been a helpful way for me to figure out what works best for me and streamline my meal prep process. Plus, it’s been great for my ADHD because I don’t have to spend as much time overthinking my food choices! I haven’t followed any specific plan or program. Instead, I’m just paying attention to hydration, nutrition, and healthy eating habits.
What did your workout routines look like? How often did you work out?
I used to focus mainly on cardio. Then, starting in February of this year, I switched things up and started doing HIIT-style strength training workouts at least 4-5 times a week for 30-60 minutes. I realized that just doing cardio wasn’t giving me the results I wanted.
In my workouts, I mix things up with a combination of bodyweight exercises, resistance training, and cardio intervals.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 365 pounds. I currently weigh 234 pounds.

What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned so far?
Through it all, I’ve come to see this journey as a spiritual test of sorts. I’ve learned so much about myself and my own inner strength and resilience. I’ve also come to appreciate the importance of self-care, self-love, and taking care of my physical and emotional health.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Many people struggle with food addiction and weight gain, which can be rooted in deeper emotional or psychological issues. That’s why I strongly advise seeking therapy or counseling as a crucial part of your weight loss journey.
